I'd really really really hate to lose my music collection. I have 950Gb of disks space, in a RAID mirror setup - i.e. 475Gb usable disk space - every file is automatically stored on 2 disks in realtime.
If a disk dies, the other takes over with no loss.. In general use it also doubles the speed of reading files, as reads are shared amongst both drives in parallel.
As for the server, *that* is backed up every night to another of my home machines (the one I use as a router, a small 'book-pc' thing that is always switched on)
