Hi, I've made a change to the downloads from this site.
This has meant that any of the current links in posts will be broken, until we get a chance to edit/fix them.
All audio is now accessable following the new 'Downloads' link in the menu at the top of every forum page.
The reasoning behind this was that a number of sites were linking to the audio files directly, therefore effectively bypassing this site, and the people who took the time to record these and make them available for everyone else.
The old "check the REFERRER STRING" hack would have been a partial solution, but I've gone one better
In a nutshell, downloads are now only available to registered forum users.
An automatic session-key is created when a registered user visits the download section, allowing them to get to the files without having to do anything special.
However, if anyone links to the files from outside the forum, then the links will STILL work if you are forum registered, but if you aren't (or you aren't logged in), you'll get the forum login/register box - even if someone copies a link with a session key, as the sessions keys expire rapidly, and are only refreshed for valid forum users.
The links on the main page will be updated shortly, but as I said, the "downloads" button at the top of the page will work.
So, basically:
1) The old addresses have changed.
2) Links in posts to the new addresses will work, whether posted on this forum, or elsewhere, but only for users who are forum-registered.
3) If you are registered, and logged in, you don't need to do anything special to download anything - it's all handled automatically.
Please let me know if you discover any quirks, I wrote this from scratch today, so there are likely to be bugs!
Cheers,
Jamie |
